Ubuntu 26.04 LTS “Resolute Raccoon” is out

Canonical published Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, codename Resolute Raccoon, on 23 April 2026. It is the eleventh long-term support release and is available from ubuntu.com/download.

What landed

Official notes highlight:

  • Linux 7.0 as the release kernel
  • GNOME 50 and a Wayland-only desktop (X11 apps via Xwayland)
  • NVIDIA CUDA and AMD ROCm packages in Ubuntu’s own repositories
  • TPM-backed full-disk encryption in the installer
  • sudo-rs and uutils coreutils as memory-safe replacements for core tools
  • Livepatch on Arm64 servers for the first time
  • Support for Intel TDX and AMD SEV confidential computing
  • RVA23 as the RISC-V baseline

Canonical’s Jon Seager called the release a mix of “resilience” and upstream innovation for whatever silicon you run.
