Linux 6.16: Nouveau for Blackwell, Intel APX groundwork
On 27 July 2025 Linus Torvalds tagged Linux 6.16 after a quiet final week: performance work, open NVIDIA Hopper/Blackwell in Nouveau, and Intel APX prep.
Linux 6.16 became stable on 27 July 2025. Torvalds wrote that the last week was “nice and calm” with no show-stoppers, so 6.16 shipped on schedule.
Reported highlights (Phoronix / 9to5Linux):
- more performance work across the tree
- Nouveau support for NVIDIA Hopper and Blackwell
- early Intel Advanced Performance Extensions (APX)
- the usual pile of driver, arch, and filesystem updates
